Title
FOGERTY ARENA CURLING DISCUSSION

Background
Representatives of Fogerty Arena are going to be present to give an update on the addition of a Curling Center to their present 2 sheet ice arena in Aquatore Park.  Fogerty Arena has indicated that the only way the Curling expansion works is to construct to the south of the existing facility which would eliminate one of the three lighted athletic fields in Aquatore Park.

Fogerty Arena asked our Park and Recreation Department what impact the elimination of the field would have on our existing recreation programs.  Attached is the information that our Park and Recreation staff provided to Fogerty Arena.

In summary, it indicates that the City currently has 7 lighted athletic fields and losing one would cause the remaining six lighted fields to be near or over capacity for May, June and July.

Also attached is a drawing of the proposed expansion that we looked at an earlier workshop and a drawing showing the long range plan for Aquatore Park that was adopted several years ago when the curling expansion was first brought to the Council's attention.
Discussion Points:

-      Is the Council interested in allowing Fogerty Arena to expand to the south and eliminate a lighted athletic field?
-      Is the Council interested in asking Fogerty Arena to replace the lighted field in Aquatore Park or elsewhere in the community?
-      If there is interest in requiring Fogerty to replace the athletic field, does the Council want to have them pay all costs immediately or develop a lease amendment that pays a smaller amount over a longer period of time?
