By Statute, Council must accept any property prior to authorizing distribution. The police department currently has 50 bicycles ready for donation to a charity organization, Bikes4Kids in Ham Lake. The bikes are estimated to be valued at approximately $600.
Background
The police department acquires a collections of bikes that have been turned in as garbage or abandoned in the community. When the owner of the bikes are unable to be determined, the bikes are redistributed to kids and people in need through a charity organization.
Bikes4Kids is a non-profit organization that collects recycled bikes, refurbishes and redistributed them to kids and people in need. Each bike is given away free of charge with safety and maintenance instructions and a helmet.
