Executive Summary

The Blaine Police Department would like to recognize Leo Luskey for his donation to the K9 Unit.  Leo donated a canine and as well as the training required for a canine.  The new canine is named Tyrone and he will replace Rex, our current K9, who will retire on August 12, 2021.  Tyrone will begin K9 School on August 16, 2021, for twelve weeks, completing his training on November 5, 2021.

 

Background

Leo Luskey grew up on a farm in Tyrone, MN. He joined the Marines and is a Vietnam Veteran. He worked for UPS after Vietnam and would later purchase a bar in Minnetonka. He owned Tyrone Transportation in the City of Blaine for 35 years.

 

Officer Reggie Larson started having coffee breaks with Leo Luskey in 2012, and they became fast friends. Leo has made several donations to the K9 program over the years, as well as sponsoring Blaine PD golf teams, donating items to the golf tournaments, and giving gift cards and snacks to first responders.

Recognizing residents who have directly benefited the police department through their donations and communicating the City of Blaine’s appreciation for their donations correlates with the City’s Strategic Plan.
