APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND ORDER ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR THE 2021 POLK STREET AREA RECONSTRUCTIONS, IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 19-16

Background

The Public Hearing for the proposed improvement project was held on October 19, 2020, and the City Council ordered the preparation of plans and specifications. The proposed project will reconstruct the following streets:

•                     Polk Street from 89^th Avenue to Clover Leaf Parkway

•                     Tyler Street from 89^th Avenue to 91^st Avenue

•                     Van Buren Street from 89^th Avenue to 91^st Avenue

•                     Jackson Street from 89^th Avenue to 91^st Avenue

•                     90^th Lane from 91^st Avenue to 91^st Avenue

Proposed improvements include installation of concrete curb and gutter where not present, replacement of existing curb and gutter on 90^th Lane, spot replacement of existing curb and gutter on Polk Street north of 91^st Avenue, spot sidewalk replacement,  storm drainage improvements, hydrant replacements, asphalt surface replacement, traffic control signage, and appurtenant construction. 

Plans and specifications have been prepared as directed and are available for Council review in the Engineering Department.

Recommendation

By motion, adopt the resolution.

Body

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 20-154 of the Blaine City Council, adopted on the 19^th day of October, 2020, Plans and specifications have been prepared for the Polk Street Area Street Reconstructions; and

WHEREAS, the Engineering Department has presented such plans and specification to the City Council for their approval.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Blaine as follows:

1.                     Such plans and specifications, copies of which are filed in the Engineering Department, are hereby approved.

2.                     The City Manager shall prepare and cause to be inserted in the official newspaper of the City an advertisement for bid for making of such improvements pursuant to the approved plans and specifications.

3.                     Such advertisement for bids shall call for sealed bids to be received in compliance with Notice of Contractor for the advertisement for bids.
