Title

AUTHORIZE CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 IN THE AMOUNT OF $69,269.00 FOR THE 2020 BLAINE STREET IMPROVEMENTS, IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 19-07

Background

An existing 30” diameter HDPE (high density polyethylene) storm sewer pipe that runs in an easement along the side lot line between two homes at 2801 and 2811 Rice Creek Parkway has a deformation and failure at two pipe joints which is causing a sinkhole to form in the yard of one of the homes.  This storm sewer pipe run was televised by City public works crews and there are concerns with other sections of the pipe besides the portion currently causing the sinkhole.  This storm sewer pipe has been subject to two other repairs in past years due to failures of pipe segments.

The repair plan is to remove the existing HDPE pipe in its entirety starting at the curb line on Rice Creek Parkway and extending to an existing manhole near the rear lot line and then install concrete pipe, which will then eliminate the types of failures that have been happening in this location.

Park Construction Company is currently reconstructing Rice Creek Parkway as a part of the 2020 Blaine Street Improvements project.  This change order will allow Park Construction Company to complete the work while the road reconstruction is going on and their crews are already on site with the necessary equipment.

Funding for this storm sewer repair will be the Stormwater Utility Fund.

By motion, approve Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $69,269.00, amend the total contract budget to $3,531,180.31, and authorize the Director of Public Works to sign said Change Order No. 1.
