APPROVE EMERGENCY BACKUP GENERATOR PURCHASE
Background
The 2019 Water Fund Capital Equipment Budget included a replacement of our portable emergency generator. The final purchase was delayed to ensure it would work with all of the new wellhouse and lift station improvements we have been doing over the last year.
The selected unit is a Caterpillar 200kW Generator mounted on a dual axle trailer providing 480V/240V - 3 phase power and 120V single phase power. The unit will be purchased through the State Cooperative Purchasing Program. The $130,000 was appropriated and held in the Water Fund Capital Equipment budget for the selected equipment. The final price is $116,405.00 plus tax, title and license.
The existing generator is a 1993 generator mounted in a repurposed 1977 enclosed trailer. The trailer is well past its useful life. The generator electronics cannot properly interface with and support all of our newer pumps and control systems in wellhouses, lift stations, and associated SCADA panels.
Recommendation
By motion, authorize the purchase of the Cat Portable Generator.
