Title

AWARD CONTRACT FOR HVAC IMPROVEMENTS AT WTP #2 IN THE AMOUNT OF $51,500.00

Background

The City issued an RFP for HVAC Improvements at our existing Water Treatment Facilities in March of 2019 to help manage the corrosive atmosphere inside these buildings.  At that time only one bid was received which was much higher than our estimates.  The City chose to reject that bid and look at having this work performed by McGough Facilities Management, the City’s building maintenance contractors.

McGough reached out and accepted two bids to perform the work using the same specification package.  These bids came in at:

Egan Company                                          $51,500.00

Harris Company                                          $72,056.00

The bid from Egan Companies was a full ‘turn-key’ proposal while the bid shown from the Harris Companies includes an estimate of additional project management by McGough.

Both are reputable companies with a long history of this type of work in the Twin Cities.  Staff recommends accepting the low bid from Egan Company.

The Council previously awarded contracts for similar work at Water Treatment Plants 1 & 3.  The work at Water Treatment Plant was delayed until after other pipe work to connect Well No 9 was completed.

This is a budgeted Capital Project item and there are sufficient funds available in the Water Enterprise Funds for this work.

Recommendation

By motion, accept the bid and authorize the Mayor and City Manager to approve a contract with Egan Company for HVAC Improvements at Water Treatment Plant No. 1 the amount of $51,500.00 and approve a 10% project contingency amount of $5,150.00 for a total project budget of $56,650.00.
