APPROVE USE OF CHARITABLE GAMBLING FUNDS FOR SALVATION ARMY FOOD SHELF

Background

On November 1, 2018, Council adopted the 2019 Charitable Gambling Fund Budget and appropriated $155,250 for contributions to qualified organizations.  As part of this appropriation, Council approved an $8,500 appropriation for the CEAP food shelf in Anoka County’s Blaine Human Service Center located at 1201 89^th Avenue NE in Blaine.  CEAP is no longer operating the food shelf at the Blaine center and no longer has a presence in Anoka County.  The food shelf is now operated by the Salvation Army and the Salvation Army has returned the $8,500 check to the City.

Considering that the Council’s intent was to use $8,500 to assist in funding the food shelf at the Blaine Service Center, staff is asking the Council to approve the payment of $8,500 to the Salvation Army Food Shelf located at the Blaine Human Service Center, 1201 89^th Avenue NE.  Since appropriations have already been made, there is no need to amend the 2019 budget at this time.

Recommendation

By motion, authorize the payment of $8,500 to the Salvation Army Food Shelf.
