Title

APPROVE USE OF CHARITABLE GAMBLING FUNDS FOR SALVATION ARMY FOOD SHELF

Background

On November 1, 2018, Council adopted the 2019 Charitable Gambling Fund Budget and appropriated $155,250 for contributions to qualified organizations.  As part of this appropriation, Council approved an $8,500 appropriation for the CEAP food shelf in Anoka County’s Blaine Human Service Center located at 1201 89th Avenue NE in Blaine.  CEAP is no longer operating the food shelf at the Blaine center and no longer has a presence in Anoka County.  The food shelf is now operated by the Salvation Army and the Salvation Army has returned the $8,500 check to the City.

Considering that the Council’s intent was to use $8,500 to assist in funding the food shelf at the Blaine Service Center, staff is asking the Council to approve the payment of $8,500 to the Salvation Army Food Shelf located at the Blaine Human Service Center, 1201 89th Avenue NE.  Since appropriations have already been made, there is no need to amend the 2019 budget at this time.

Recommendation

By motion, authorize the payment of $8,500 to the Salvation Army Food Shelf.
