Title

AWARD CONTRACT FOR UPGRADES TO LIFT STATION NO. 2 AND NO. 19 TO ELECTRIC PUMP IN THE AMOUNT OF $26,174.94

Background

Staff has been in the process of upgrading our older lift stations as the pumps and motors wear out.  Last year the Council approved standardizing on a single vendor - Flygt N style submersible pump that provides the combination of material cutting and clog free operation to handle ‘flushables’ that has been the cause a lot of clogging and other problems in recent years.  This pump includes a hard iron impeller and the company provides a two-year clog free guarantee on their products.  No other manufacturers were able to provide a competitive bid that met the equivalent specifications.

After researching all manufacturers’ newest products we determined that only the Flygt N style submersible pump provided the combination of material cutting and clog free operation that we are looking for.  The local distributor for this product is Electric Pump.  This pump includes a hard iron impeller and the company provides a two-year clog free guarantee on their products.  No other manufacturers were able to provide a competitive bid that met the equivalent specifications.

The work includes moving undersized pumps from Lift Station No. 2 to Lift Station No. 19 and then installing new pumps at Lift Station No. 2.  The old pumps at Lift Station No. 19 are worn out and will be disposed of.

There are sufficient funds available in the Sewer Enterprise Funds for this work.

Recommendation

By motion, authorize the Mayor and City Manager to award contract to Electric Pump for upgrades to Lift Station No. 2 & No. 19 in the amount of $26,174.94.
