CONSENT AGENDA - Jon Haukaas, Director of Public Works
Title
APPROVE UNBUDGETED TRADE IN AND PURCHASE OF A PARKS MOWER
Background
Staff is requesting Council approval for the trade-in of a 2014 Toro Groundsmaster 4700-D Mower and purchase of a Toro Z-Master 7500 Series with a 96” cutting capability. This purchase was not budgeted in the 2019 Equipment Budget process.
The 2014 Groundsmaster 4700 mower was purchased for use at the Lexington Athletic Complex to create patterns in the grass surface similar to what you would see at a professional stadium. While it performs these functions well, the process is time consuming and inefficient for the overall needs of the Parks Maintenance department to maintain the numerous athletic fields around the City.
Staff has been researching more efficient mowing options with the local Toro distributor and determined that a Z-Master 7500 Series with 96” cutting capabilities would be much more in line with our overall needs while still providing excellent playing surfaces in our athletic complexes. The City has several other smaller Z-Master mowers and has been very happy with their performance.
The retail price of the new Z-Master 7500 Series mower is $34,066.18. The City typically purchases additional filter kits, spare tire, and extra mower blades totaling less than $2,000 when a new mower is added to the fleet.
The distributor has offer a trade-in value of $35,000 on the 2014 Groundsmaster 4700 mower. Based on this trade-in value, we would be able to purchase the new mower with no adjustment to the 2019 Capital Equipment Budget while improving the efficiency of operations.
Recommendation
By motion, authorize the purchase of the 2019 Toro Z-Master 7500 Series mower with 96” turbo force deck with proceeds from trading in the 2014 Groundsmaster 4700-D mower.
