Title

APPROVE ADDITIONAL SCOPE TO EVALUATE WATER BOOSTER STATION FOR THE WELLHOUSE REHABILITATION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 16-22 IN THE AMOUNT OF $24,000

Background

Barr Engineering has been awarded the contract to design improvements for our wellhouses and associated water system components.  A new issue came up during the investigation of the facility housing Well #16, the ground storage reservoir, and the booster pumping station.  The team found that the two 5,000 gpm pumps were inoperable, and only the smaller 2,500 gpm pump had been used on a limited basis over the past several years.  When the new water towers were constructed, the pumps were no longer needed to serve our population at that time and all maintenance or operation was stopped. The City has since grown to a point of needing that capability again.  Lack of operability of this booster station severely limits our ability to utilize the ground storage reservoir for peaking capacity and especially if the volume would be needed for firefighting.

We asked Barr to give us a proposal to evaluate the current and future need for the booster station as well as options for rehabilitation.  They will consider the need for the pumps under current conditions, conditions after the WTP4 is online, and 2040 projected conditions.  Additionally, the piping, motors, pumps, and all controls will be evaluated for condition, size, and rehabilitation needs.  The deliverables will include alternatives with cost estimates to best decide how to bring the staiton back to providing the service necessary for the Baline water system.

Financial Impacts

The budget modification for this additional scope is $24,000.

The project will be funded through the Water Enterprise Fund.
