Title

APPROVING THE CONTRACT FOR THE DEMOLITION OF 10525 NASSAU STREET NE. WITH SAUTER AND SONS

 

Background

In May 2017 the Blaine EDA purchased two properties at 10525 Nassau St. and 2111 105th Ave. from Guzik LLC.  The Guzik’s operated their business, Arkad Corporation, from these buildings.  The EDA leased both of the buildings back to Arkad Corporation until the end of 2017 until they vacated the building at 10525 Nassau St.  They are still leasing the building at 2111 105th Ave. until May 2019. 

 

Now that the building at 10525 Nassau St. is vacant, the EDA is proposing to demolish the building to prepare the area for redevelopment.  Staff solicited bids for the project and received two bids.  They are as follows:

 

                     Sauter and Sons - $34,500

                     Nitti Roll-Off - $48,900

 

Staff recommends awarding the bid to Sauter and Sons.  This company has done several other successful demolition projects in the City of Blaine over the last three years. 

 

The contract requires demolition to occur by July 31, 2018.  The site will be backfilled and seeded.  Some of the paved surface will remain to allow access to the property at 2111 105th Ave. since access to that property was eliminated as part of the 105th Ave. project.  Next summer the building at 2111 105th Ave. will be demolished to further prepare the area for redevelopment.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the EDA approve the demolition contract with Sauter and Sons in the amount of $34,500.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissions (the “Board) of the Blaine Economic Development Authority (the “EDA”), as follows:

 

WHEREAS, it is one of the goals and purposes of the Blaine EDA to improve the community, strengthen the tax base and enhance employment opportunities; and

 

WHEREAS, the EDA owns property at 10525 Nassau St.; and

 

WHEREAS, the EDA purchased the property for the purpose of redevelopment; and

 

WHEREAS, bids were solicited for demolition of the building; and

 

WHERAS, two bids were received and the lowest bid was submitted by Sauter and Sons in the amount of $34,500.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners of the Blaine Economic Development Authority, City of Blaine, Minnesota, that the President and Executive Director of the Blaine Economic Development Authority are here authorized to execute any and all agreements and documents with Sauter and Sons required for demolition of 10525 Nassau St.
