Title
AUTHORIZE CHANGE ORDER NO. 2 IN THE AMOUNT OF $37,332.00 FOR BLAINE WETLAND SANCTUARY PARKING LOT, IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 14-09
Background
On December 15, 2016, this project was awarded to Dunaway Construction in the amount of $247,414.00 via Resolution No. 16-169 for the construction of the parking lot at the Blaine Wetland Sanctuary. The Council approved a total project budget of $272,155.40.
During construction a significant deposit of unsuitable peat soils were discovered during subgrade preparation for the parking lot. The unsuitable soil was localized to an area on the north side of the parking lot. Four soil borings were done in the parking lot area during the design phase and they did not encounter this peat deposit. The change order covers the costs associated with removal and disposal of the unsuitable soils and importation and placement of replacement granular material.
Change Order No. 2 is separate from the 10% contingency that the City Council approved when awarding the contract. There are sufficient funds available in the Open Space Funds for this Change Order and additional funds will become available with future sale of wetland credits being created in the Blaine Wetland Sanctuary.
Recommendation
By motion, approve Change Order No. 2 in the amount of $37,332.00, amend the total contract budget to $309,487.40, and authorize the Public Services Manager to sign said Change Order No. 2.
