AUTHORIZE PURCHASE OF ROAD CHEMICALS FOR 2016 - 2017 IN THE AMOUNT OF $277,920
Background
Each year the City orders road salt(sodium chloride) from the State of Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing program. The road salt is used to treat our streets to minimize the amount of ice and snow on the roadways to make them safe for travel by the public.
The 2016 - 2017 price for road salt is $69.48 per ton which is $3.66 less than last years’ price of $73.14. Staff is recommending ordering 4,000 tons of road salt(same amount as 2015-2016) for a total price of $277,920.
Recommendation
By motion, authorize the purchase of 4,000 tons of road salt(sodium chloride) from the State of Minnesota Purchasing program in the amount of $277,920.
