2017 800 MHZ RADIO PURCHASE
Background
In the adoption of the 2017 Capital Budget, Council appropriated the funding for certain pieces of equipment in the Capital Equipment Plan. Pursuant to the City Charter, Sec. 6.05, staff is now requesting City Council approval for the actual purchase of the 800 MHz Radios (both squad mounted and portable radios). This is part of a scheduled replacement cycle of police radios. These radios will be purchased through Anoka County Communications.
Because of price increases for 2017, by making the purchase order prior to December 15, 2016, we save $400 per radio. In addition, by ordering prior to December 15, 2016 we will receive a rebate on old radios turned back over to the vendor. This allows us to receive 23 radios for the same price we would have paid for 22 radios.
