Title

A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ARBITRATION AWARD COVERING THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF BLAINE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT LABOR SERVICES, INC. REPRESENTING THE POLICE OFFICER UNIT FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 2016

 

 

Background

The Council is asked to approve the attached revised LELS contract with the police officer unit for 2016.

 

Body

                     WHEREAS, representatives of the City of Blaine and representatives of Law Enforcement Labor Services, Inc. met and negotiated over a successor collective bargaining agreement to replace the existing collective bargaining agreement that expired by its terms on December 31, 2015; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the parties were unable to resolve a limited number of issues; and 

 

                     WHEREAS, representatives of the City of Blaine and representatives of Law Enforcement Labor Services, Inc. presented the unresolved issues to an arbitrator as required by Minn. Stat. Sec. 179A; and,

 

                     WHEREAS, the arbitrator awarded a one year contract duration for calendar 2016, a general wage increase of three percent (3%) and a seventy dollar ($70) increase in the City’s contribution toward the cafeteria plan; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the arbitration award is binding on the parties.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Blaine City Council approves the arbitration award and that the appropriate representatives of the City, upon receipt of the three original contracts executed by the Union, are authorized and directed to execute the original contracts.
