Title

ADOPTING THE 2017 - 2018 CIF INTEREST FUND PLAN FOR NEIGHBORHOOD PARK IMPROVEMENTS AND THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT MONEY FROM GAME TIME COMPANY IN THE AMOUNT OF $60,676.50.

Background

In 2014 the City Council adopted a program that set aside $200,000 a year over five years for improvements to neighborhood parks. The funding is to come from the interest earned in the Capital Improvement Fund. Staff has done an evaluation of all of our neighborhood parks and developed a proposed two year plan of projects which are listed in the attached plan.

For 2017, staff is proposing the replacement of playground equipment at Centennial Green, Meadowbrook, North Oaks West and Radisson Woods Park. Staff has also planned on replacing the roof at the Happy Acres building, adding wood fiber and playground swings at Broken Oaks Park and adding an additional ball field at Xylite Park.

The City of Blaine has qualified for a grant of $60,676.50 for the replacement of Centennial Green, Meadowbrook, North Oaks West and Radisson Woods Parks. In order to meet the matching grant requirements and as a condition of receiving the grant, the playground equipment and freight need to be paid in 2016.

In order to save money on freight charges, all of the playground equipment, swings and mats would be ordered and delivered in 2016. The remainder of the balance would be invoiced in 2017. The grand total of the grant-related project would not exceed $143,000.
