Title
APPROVE PAVING AURELIA PARK HOCKEY RINK IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $15,000
Background
Aurelia Park Hockey rink is one of the last to be paved which provides for more year-round use of the rink with in-line skating, skate boarding, and general free play. From a maintenance stand point, a paved hockey rink allows for faster and better quality ice making than a dirt base by having more of a uniform and level application of water and the water will freeze much quicker.
The cost of the bituminous material will not exceed $15,000 and the funds for this will come from the Capital Improvement Fund interest that Council approved for the improvement of mini and neighborhood parks in the amount of $200,000 a year over the next 5 years. The labor will be performed by our Park Maintenance staff. This project will be completed before the 2014-2015 outdoor skating season. Additionally the park maintenance staff will be replacing the boards and funds will be used from the Park Maintenance budget for this part of the project.
Recommendation
By Motion, approve paving Aurelia Park Hockey Rink in the amount not to exceed $15,000.
