APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND ORDER ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR 2020 JEFFERSON STREET AREA RECONSTRUCTIONS, IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 18-17

Background

The Public Hearing for the proposed improvement project was held on March 7, 2019, and the City Council ordered the preparation of plans and specifications.  The Jefferson Street Area Reconstruction project which reconstructs several city streets is to be constructed over two years (2019 and 2020).  The construction project for 2020, with plans and specifications titled 105^th Avenue Reconstruction and 115^th Avenue Area Pavement Rehabilitation, will reconstruct 105^th Avenue from University Avenue to Jefferson Street, 115^th Avenue from Jefferson Street to Tyler Street, Quincy Street from 113^th Avenue to 115^th Avenue, Van Buren Court from 115^th Avenue to the cul de sac, and Tyler Street from 113^th Avenue to115^th Lane. 

Proposed improvements include installation of concrete curb and gutter where not present, spot replacement existing curb and gutter, storm drainage improvements, spot sanitary service repair, spot water main repair, asphalt surface replacement, traffic control signage, and appurtenant construction. 

Plans and specifications have been prepared as directed and are available for Council review in the Engineering Department.

Recommendation

By motion, adopt the resolution.

Body

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 19-28 of the Blaine City Council, adopted on the 7th day of March, 2019, Plans and specifications have been prepared for Jefferson Street Area Street Reconstructions; and

WHEREAS, the Engineering Department has presented such plans and specification to the City Council for their approval.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Blaine as follows:

1.                     Such plans and specifications, copies of which are filed in the Engineering Department, are hereby approved.

2.                     The City Manager shall prepare and cause to be inserted in the official newspaper of the City an advertisement for bid for making of such improvements pursuant to the approved plans and specifications.

3.                     Such advertisement for bids shall call for sealed bids to be received in compliance with Notice of Contractor for the advertisement for bids.
