CONSENT AGENDA- Dan Schluender, City Engineer
Title
AUTHORIZE CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 IN THE AMOUNT OF $53,863.00 FOR THE 2020 SEWER SLIP LINING PROJECT, IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 20-31
Background
Public Works crews repaired a sinkhole in the median on 123rd Lane just west of North Lake Boulevard and discovered that a section of storm sewer pipe in this location had a crack in a joint that was allowing the groundwater to infiltrate into the pipe, bringing with it the surrounding soil which created the sinkhole. This storm sewer pipe run is approximately 123 feet long and runs between two ponds on the north and south sides of 123rd Lane. There are a few other cracks in the pipe that are not yet concerning but in the future they could possibly grow worse and allow additional groundwater infiltration. It is proposed to slip line this storm sewer pipe run to prevent further ground water infiltration.
Insituform Technologies was recently awarded the contract for the 2020 Sewer Slip Lining project to slip line certain sanitary sewer lines on the I 35W Service Road and Flanders Street north of 95th Avenue. Since the crews and equipment will be in Blaine, the City will save additional mobilization costs by having Insituform slip line the storm sewer run. This change order will amend the contract to include slip lining the storm sewer pipe on 123rd Lane.
The funding source for this storm sewer repair will be the Stormwater Utility Fund.
Recommendation
By motion, approve Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $53,863.00, amend the total contract budget to $813,909.00, and authorize the Director of Public Works to sign said Change Order No. 1.
