Title

APPROVE AMENDMENT TO CONTRACT WITH BOLTON & MENK FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF LEVER STREET FROM 125TH AVENUE TO THE 132ND AVENUE ALIGNMENT, IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 17-07

Background

In June of 2017, the City executed an agreement with Bolton & Menk to provide preliminary survey, preliminary and final design, and construction surveying services for the reconstruction of Lever Street from 125th Avenue to 132nd Avenue alignment at the cost of $172,229.

The consultant has completed the design plan and submitted for agency approvals in 2017/18.  During the agency approval process, the City staff received comments from several properties along the corridor that are in the process of redeveloping.  The current developments along this corridor include Oakwood Ponds, Woodridge, and a new Anoka-Hennepin School.  Bolton & Menk has had to alter the plan numerous times during the design process.  Attached you will find a list of items that they performed that were outside the original scope of professional services.  At the City’s request to insure that the Lever Street plans continue to account for the new developments, Bolton &Menk has revised the Lever Street project plans and design elements of the project and resubmitted for agency review and approval.  As these were outside the original scope of the project, additional cost has been incurred in the amount of $36,543.

Recommendation

By motion, authorize an amendment to the professional design services contract with Bolton & Menk from the original amount of $172,229 to $208,722 for the additional service performed.  This amended contract amount includes $36,543 in compensation for the design changes as listed in the attached letter from Bolton & Menk, dated April 25, 2018 for continual plan changes to reflect all of the new plat activity on the Lever Street corridor.
