Title
ACCEPTING THE PROPOSAL FOR REPLACEMENT PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $220,000 FROM MINNESOTA/WISCONSIN PLAYGROUND FOR AQUATORE PARK
Background
Aquatore Park playground equipment is 21 years old and in need of replacement. In approving the most recent Parks Capital Improvement Plan, Council appropriated $200,000 for replacement of the playground equipment. In addition to the Council appropriation, the Blaine Festival Committee donated $20,000 to the City to use for improvements in Aquatore Park, specifically for the installation of a zip-line in the park.
Staff exercised the purchasing cooperative of U.S. Communities Government Alliance and chose the playground equipment line manufactured by GameTime and supplied by Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground. This improvement will include concrete border, wood fiber, rubber surfacing, benches, playground equipment and installation. The cost of this playground with installation will be $220,000.
The Park Board reviewed the plans, equipment choices, and cost and has recommended them for City Council approval. If approved, playground installation will be completed by October of this year.
Attached is the design and itemized cost of the playground.
Recommendation
By motion, accept the proposal from Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground for playground equipment purchase and installation at Aquatore Park in an amount not to exceed $220,000.
