Title
AWARD CONTRACT TO CAPISTRANT ELECTRIC IN THE AMOUNT OF $26,235.72 FOR WORK TO BE COMPLETED AT BLAINE COURTS SENIOR FACILITIES AS PART OF THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) PROGRAM.
Background
On September 20, 2012 City Council passed Resolution 12-126, awarding bids for improvements at Blaine Courts and Cloverleaf Courts Senior Facilities. As part of this resolution, Council authorized staff to seek quotes for those remaining improvements for which no bids were received. Pursuant to the resolution, staff solicited quotes from Capistrant Electric, Ben Franklin Electric, and Al's Electric to furnish and install the parking lot lighting replacement and lighting for a new monument sign. Both Ben Franklin Electric and Al's Electric opted not to quote the project. The original construction cost estimate ($14,200) for the replacement monument sign included both the cost to purchase and install a monument sign, as well as the associated electrical work. The electrical work portion of the monument sign installation is included in the quote from Capistrant Electric, as follows:
Disconnect and remove 4 globe light fixtures |
Disconnect and remove 5 receptacle stations |
Provide (6) 24"x8' concrete bases for new light poles |
All underground work, installation of new light poles, |
Ground lights for new monument sign and permits |

$29,200.00 |
The purchase and installation of the new monument sign is not included in the above quotes, and will be done after completion of the electrical work for the sign. Staff is continuing to gather quotes for other items for which bids were not received.
This item is being coordinated with the removal and installation of the new driveway at Blaine Courts and in doing so has provided some cost savings. Therefore staff is recommending that the City enter into a contract with Capistrant Electric to perform the work at Blaine Courts Senior Facilities.
Recommendation
By motion, authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Capistrant Electric in the amount of $26,235.72 for electrical work at Blaine Courts Senior Facilities.
