APPROVE SIGN TRACKING SOFTWARE UPGRADE
Background
For several years the Public Works Sign Division has struggled with an effective and efficient means to track the installation and maintenance of the City's sign inventory. New Federal regulations enacted recently to rate retro reflectivity and street name sign font changes and the time of replacement have complicated the matter even more. The current method involved a cumbersome process of merging data gathered in the field to the computer database. Staff has been seeking an upgraded process and software to streamline the process.
Flatrock Geographics has been selected after demonstrations, references from other cities and our own experience in its utilization for our storm sewer inspection and maintenance program. Staff budgeted $18,000.00 for this software in the 2015 sign maintenance budget. The software utilizes an iPad software program that will gather and track the installation, GPS location and picture for more efficient record keeping and reporting. We will also utilize the existing license previously purchased with the storm sewer module. The cost of the program is $17,740.00.
Recommendation
By Motion, approve the proposal from Flatrock Geographics for the traffic sign management module for $17,740.00, to be funded by the sign maintenance budget.
