ITEM: 5.2 AWARDS - PRESENTATIONS
Title
PROCLAMATION - EAGLE SCOUT DAVID RIES
BODY
WHEREAS, the conferring of an Eagle Scout is one of the highest awards that can be bestowed upon a Boy Scout; and
WHEREAS, this award is earned in that the recipient must perform and successfully complete and pass the rigid requirements exacted to achieve an Eagle Scout award and only five percent of all Scouts achieve this goal; and
WHEREAS, it is also the desire of the City to encourage community groups and residents to take an active role in assisting the City in taking pride in enjoying it's parks and open spaces by volunteering in efforts of beautification and cleanliness; and
WHEREAS, as his Eagle Scout Project, David Ries planned and constructed a 12' x 20' open picnic shelter at Jefferson Park, having to receive plan and specification approval from the City, seek donations for materials, prepare the site, pour a concrete slab, install support beams, assemble the roof frame and trusses, shingle the roof, and stain the bare wood; and
WHEREAS, the project required a combined total of over 555 hours of work from David, fellow scouts, family, friends and volunteers; and
WHEREAS, the shelter being completed on July 26, 2013 will now serve as a worthy and attractive amenity in Jefferson Park for picnicking, small group gatherings and shelter from the elements; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Blaine hereby proclaims David Ries an outstanding citizen and commends him for his hard work and extend their congratulations for having an Eagle Scout Award bestowed upon him by the Boy Scouts of America.
