ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION, ARTICLE II. CITY COUNCIL, SECTION 2-07, SALARIES OF MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BLAINE
Background
Council salaries were last increased in January 2007 when Ordinance No. 06-2073 was adopted on February 6, 2006. During the 1990s, Council salaries had been increased annually at the same percentage rate as City employees, but between 1998 and 2005 no adjustments were made to Council salaries. Per State statute a salary change for Councilmembers shall not take effect until after the next succeeding election therefore any increase would not take effect until January 2015.
It is recommended to increase Council salaries by five percent, effective January 1, 2015, as follows:

Mayor $1,136.00/month $1,192.80/month
Councilmembers $833.33/month $875.00/month
First reading of the proposed ordinance was held on August 7 and directed by Council to be placed for second reading at the September 18, 2014, Council meeting.

Sec. 2-31. Salaries of mayor and councilmembers.
Pursuant to the City Charter, section 2.07, and Minnesota Statutes ยง 415.11, as amended, the salary of the mayor shall be increased to [$1,136.00] $1,192.80 per month; and the salary of the councilmembers shall be increased to [$833.33] $875.00 per month, effective January 2015.
