POLICE DEPARTMENT K-9 PROGRAM RECOGNITION
Background
In March of 2008 the City of Blaine and the Blaine Police Department began our new canine program with the introduction of police canine Gunner and his handler, Officer Greg Rowe. Throughout the years, the team maintained its certification from the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) as Police Canine I along with being certified in narcotics detection. Over the last six years, Gunner and Officer Rowe have made a number of arrests, conducted many searches in all types of locations and weather, and they have recovered a variety of evidence, weapons and drugs. The team has made a significant contribution to the safety and well-being of the citizens of Blaine as well as Blaine Police Officers and other members of the law enforcement community. Tonight we will be recognizing this team and retiring Gunner, who has proudly served the City of Blaine.
Additionally, the Blaine Police Department is proud to introduce our newest canine Team, Remy, and his handler, Officer Mark Allen. Just last month, this newest team completed their initial trials and are certified as Police Canine I and also certified in narcotics detection. Remy and Officer Allen are currently on Patrol and are sharing canine responsibilities with our other team, Rex and Officer Larson.
