CAPITAL PURCHASE - 9MM HANDGUNS
Background
In the adoption of the 2019 Capital Budget, Council appropriated the funding for certain pieces of equipment in the Capital Equipment Plan. Pursuant to the City Charter, Sec. 6.05, staff is now requesting City Council approval for the actual purchase of the handguns. We have had our current weapons for 8 years. With advancement in technology, the new generation 9mm Glock has virtually the same stopping power as the larger caliber weapon. The weapon has less recoil accounting for better accuracy. Our current weapons have had 1,000's of rounds of ammunition through them and certain parts of the weapons are wearing out and our armorers are often replacing parts due to wear. This weapon is compatible with our current holsters and magazines, thus no need to replace duty gear.

Recommendation
By motion, approve expenditure of up to $40,000 from Tactical Advantage (cheaper than state contract pricing).
