ITEM: 10.2 CONSENT AGENDA - Jean M. Keely, City Engineer
Title
AUTHORIZE TEMPORARY REMOVAL OF PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON 103RD LANE FOR CENTENNIAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2012 (RAIN DATE: OCTOBER 3, 2012)
Background
The City of Blaine received a letter from Kathy Kaiser, Principal of Centennial Elementary School, requesting the temporary removal of parking restrictions on 103rd Lane and National Street in order to allow parking on those streets from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on September 26, 2012, with a rain date of October 3, 2012. The school is hosting the Centennial Stroll event during that time period and expects a need for additional parking to accommodate observers of the event. In reviewing previously approved parking restrictions, National Street has no restrictions and needs no further action to allow parking, however, there is restricted parking on 103rd Lane and City Council authorization is required for the temporary lifting of those parking restrictions. Over the past several years, City Council has authorized the temporary lifting of restrictions for this event and others, including their annual Track event and a "Walk-a-thon" in 2005.
Recommendation
By motion, authorize the temporary removal of parking restrictions on 103rd Lane from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on September 26, 2012, with a rain date of October 3, 2012.
