Title
REQUEST ANOKA COUNTY TO ACCOMPLISH A SPEED STUDY ON LEXINGTON AVENUE

Background
The City of Lexington has passed a resolution asking MNDOT to do a speed study of Lexington Avenue in the City of Lexington. They have also contacted the cities of Circle Pines and Blaine to request that we also pass resolutions asking for a speed study to be done on Lexington Avenue.

In the past they have expressed concern about the speed and the current speed limit changes in this area of Lexington Avenue and want MNDOT to revisit this issue.

In the City of Blaine we have not had any issues with the current speed limit. This is a MNDOT function and the City will have no control once we request the speed study, so we will need to be prepared if they change any of the speed limits.  Lexington Avenue in the City of Blaine is under the jurisdiction of Anoka County, and therefore, the County would have to submit a request to MNDOT for a speed study.

This item was discussed at workshop on May 17, 2012 and staff was directed to return with a motion asking that Anoka County accomplish a speed study on Lexington Avenue.

Recommendation
By motion, request that Anoka County accomplish a speed study on CSAH 17 (Lexington Avenue) throughout the City of Blaine.
