CONSENT AGENDA - Jon Haukaas, Director of Public Works
Title
APPROVE 2018 DNR WATER APPROPRIATION PERMIT PAYMENT
Background
Every year the City must pay a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Water Appropriation permit fee for the amount of water we pumped the previous year. The permit fee is calculated by multiplying the gallons pumped by the fee rate of $8.00 per million gallons. In 2018, the City pumped 2,376,932,590 gallons of water, which equates to a fee of $19,015.46. A surcharge of $30.00 per million gallons is applied to the volume of water used in each of the months of June, July, and August that exceeds the volume of water pumped in January. The surcharge is in addition to the regular fee. Blaine’s surcharge for 2018 for 1,060,700,178 gallons of water is $31,821.01. The total appropriation permit fee for 2018 is $50,838.47.
Enacting and enforcement of the summer watering restrictions will not only lower the City’s surcharge, but will demonstrate to the DNR that the City is taking appropriate steps to control our peak demand and adhere to the requirements outlined and approved in our Water Emergency and Conservation Plan.
This Fee is paid for from the Water Utility Fund.
Recommendation
By motion, approve payment of the DNR Water Appropriation Permit in the amount of $50,838.47, charged to the Water Utility Fund.
