SNOW AND ICE CONTROL POLICY

Background

The purpose of this policy is to establish goals for the City of Blaine regarding snow and ice control.  This policy provides necessary direction for these operations and guidelines for employees and residents based on available resources. 

The City’s original Snow and Ice Policy was last updated by City Council adoption of Resolution No. 09-07 in January 2009. Updating the policy is warranted due to the increase in mileage of streets, sidewalks, trails and numbers of cul-de-sacs.  Additionally, updating the policy is necessary to reflect changes in operational routes, equipment, and technology usage.  Finally, this update will correct the references in City Code pertaining to Winter Parking Restrictions.

Recommendation

Staff recommends the City Council move to adopt the resolution.

Body

WHEREAS, The City of Blaine’s snow and ice policy was adopted in December 2002 and last updated in January 2009 and;

WHEREAS, amending the policy is warranted due the increase in the miles of trails, sidewalks, streets and number of cul-de-sacs over the past seven years and;

WHEREAS, amending the policy is necessary to update City Code references pertaining to Parking Restrictions;

WHEREAS, the policy is amended to reflect changes in operational routes, equipment, and technology usage.

                      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Blaine City Council does hereby adopt the Resolution amending the Snow and Ice Policy
