Title
MAYORAL APPOINTMENTS TO THE 2012 PARK ADVISORY BOARD
Background
Three vacancies exist on the Park Board due to the expiration of terms as follows: Tom Newland, District 1; Jeffrey Bird, District 2; and Jon Langenfeld, District 3. Incumbents, Jeffrey Bird and Jon Langenfeld have submitted an application seeking reappointment. Tom Newland is not seeking reappointment. The 2011 Park Advisory Board list is attached for your reference.
The City received one other application from an interested resident, but he recently removed his name. This leaves an opening in District 1 which will be re-advertised in the paper and on the city's website. The Council interviewed Park Advisory Board applicant finalists on January 23, 2012. A list of Park Advisory Board applicants is attached to this agenda item.
As a reminder, at least two members must reside in each Council election district for the term of their appointment to the Park Advisory Board. Appointments need to be made as follows:
· one commissioner in District 1 for a two-year term
· one commissioner in District 2 for a two-year term
· one commissioner in District 3 for a two-year term
The method of appointment was adopted by the Blaine City Council in 1996 and became effective in 1997. Ordinance No. 96-1629 provides that the Mayor will announce the appointment of the appointees to serve two-year terms on the Park Advisory Board. The Council will confirm the appointments at the February 16, 2012 regular Council meeting. The Park Advisory Board appointees will be sworn into office at the March 27, 2012 Park Advisory Board meeting.
