AUTHORIZATON TO REPLACE COMPRESSOR AT CITY HALL IN THE AMOUNT OF $38,200.00 TO KRAFT CONTRACTING & MECHANICAL AND AMEND THE 2016 GENERAL FUND BUDGET
Background
In the process of getting the chiller (air conditioning units) at City Hall ready for the summer cooling season, it was found that compressor #3 has failed and is not repairable. City Hall has three compressors on the chiller unit that take care of air conditioning the city and police spaces. For the early and late portions of the cooling season two compressors can be used to accomplish the task, but during the major part of the cooling season it takes all three compressors to control the temperature and humidity at City Hall.
Staff has received three quotes for the replacement of compressor #3:
NAC Mechanical and Electrical Services $56,987
Schadegg Mechanical $42,435
Kraft Contracting and Mechanical $38,200
This is not a budgeted repair and funds would need to come from the City’s Contingency fund to cover the costs of this project.
This resolution will also amend the 2016 General Fund budget to transfer the contingency funds to the general fund for the new compressor.
Recommendation
By Resolution, authorize the replacement of a compressor at City Hall in the amount of $38,200 to Kraft Contracting and Mechanical from the city’s contingency fund and amend the 2016 general fund budget by $38,200.

WHEREAS, One of the compressors in the chiller unit at City Hall has failed and needs to be replaced immediately; and
WHEREAS, The cost of replacing the compressor is not in the 2016 budget and is in excess of any funds available in the 2016 building funds budget; and
WHEREAS, Contingency funds will need to be used to fund this replacement; and
WHEREAS, the general fund budget will need to be amended by $38,200 to finance the compressor repair.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Blaine City Council authorizes the replacement of compressor #3 on the City Hall chiller unit and amend the 2016 General Fund budget as follows:
- EXPENDITURES: From Contingency $38,200 to account 101.50.530.532-4340
