Title
APPROVE TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES OF PORTIONS OF HARPERS STREET AND LAKES PARKWAY FOR BLAINE TRIATHLON
Background
The annual Blaine Triathlon is May 17, 2014 and is sponsored by the City Park and Recreation Department. Lakeside Commons Park will be the event's primary event area. To help facilitate the concentration of activity in this area, it is proposed to temporarily close a portion Harpers Street and Lakes Parkway for the following purposes:
· To allow efficient arrival of participants and the spectators being dropped off by the shuttle busses from City Hall.
· To allow for safe starts and finishes for participants of the bike and run legs of the triathlon.
A detour is proposed around the closure area on Marina Circle and no residential areas will be impacted. The traffic control company contracted for the event will coordinate the closure with the City's Public Works Department and Public Safety Department. The duration of the closure will be from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Recommendation
By motion, approve the Resolution
Body
WHEREAS, the Blaine City Council is cognizant of providing regulation of vehicular traffic in a safe and responsible manner, and
WHEREAS, the City Ordinance requires a City Resolution authorizing the temporary closure of public roads, and
WHEREAS, the temporary closure will not adversely affect traffic safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Blaine as follows:
1. Temporary road closures are hereby authorized to be on Harpers Street from North Marina Circle to Lakes Parkway and Lakes Parkway between North Marina Circle, for Blaine Triathlon between the hours of 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, May 17, 2014.
