Title
APPROVE CARPETING REPLACEMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $13,054 IN POLICE DEPARTMENT

Background
The 2012 Capital budget for public buildings included $10,000 to replace carpeting in a heavily used portion of the police department.  We have requested quotes on carpet squares instead of the traditional carpet.  Carpet squares are easier to install around furniture and easier to replace when worn out.  The biggest advantage with carpet squares is that you only have to replace the squares that are worn out in a room/hallway instead of the whole room/hallway with traditional carpet.

The two quotes received for the carpeting are:
St. Paul Linoleum & Carpet      $13,054
Architectural Sales                  $14,400

These bid amounts are over the $10,000 level budgeted, however there were several items in the public buildings capital budget that ended up being funded with the energy grant, so there is sufficient funds in the capital budget to cover this increased amount.

Recommendation
By motion approve quote of $13,054 by St. Paul Linoleum & Carpet for replacement carpet in the Police Department.
