Title

AUTHORIZE REMOVAL OF REGULATORY SIGNS FOR PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON BOTH SIDES OF 122ND COURT EAST OF DUNKIRK STREET

Background

On July 27, 2015, the City received a petition from residents who live on Dunkirk Street and 122nd Court east of Lakes Parkway.  The petition was signed by 25 of the 42 parcels (60%) and asked the City Council to consider parking restrictions on both sides of Dunkirk Street and 122nd Court from June 1st thru Labor Day between 10 AM and 8 PM.  The petition states that residents were concerned with the number of vehicles parked on the street to access the beach and the safety of pedestrians walking on the street around the parked vehicles.  On September 3, 2015, Council authorized the installation of parking restriction signs on both Dunkirk Street and 122nd Court as requested in the petition.  The signs were installed at the end of May prior to opening of the beach.

On June 6, 2016, the City received a petition from residents who live on 122nd Court asking for the newly installed parking restriction signs to be removed.  Eleven of the eighteen property owners signed this petition which represent 61% of the parcels on the cul de sac.  Four property owners signed both petitions - initially for parking restrictions and now for removal of the signs.  The property owner that brought the petition to City Hall stated that those that signed the first petition thought it was for Dunkirk Street only even though the petition included both streets.  They feel the parking restrictions on 122nd Court are a burden to the people who lived on the cul de sac and they want the ability to park their own cars and guest cars on the street in front of their homes.  Removal of parking restriction signs requires authorization by City Council.
