EAGLE SCOUT AUSTIN SWENSON
Body
WHEREAS, the conferring of an Eagle Scout is one of the highest awards that can be bestowed upon a Boy Scout; and
WHEREAS, this award is earned only after the recipient performs and successfully completes and passes the rigid requirements exacted to achieve an Eagle Scout award and only five percent of all Scouts achieve this goal; and
WHEREAS, it is also the desire of the City to encourage community groups and individuals to take an active role in assisting the City in taking pride in it's parks and open spaces by volunteering in efforts of beautification and enhancement; and
WHEREAS, as his Eagle Scout Project, Austin Swenson planned and constructed a 9' x 21' war memorial and a 4' x 32' walkway consisting of over 1,000 stone pavers with two stone benches at Town Square Park; and
WHEREAS, etched stone pavers indentify a historical chronology of 12 major war campaigns and honor MIA/POW's, VFW's, branches of military, special war dedications and recognition of the Eagle Scout Project; and
WHEREAS, the project required a combined total of over 150 hours of work from Austin, fellow scouts, family, friends and volunteers; and
WHEREAS, the memorial was completed on August 18, 2012 and ceremoniously dedicated on September 29, 2012 as a symbol of our gratitude and remembrance to all our military personnel past, present and not forgotten; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Blaine hereby proclaims Austin Swenson an outstanding citizen and commends him for his hard work and extend their congratulations for having an Eagle Scout Award bestowed upon him by the Boy Scouts of America.
