Title
AUTHORIZE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH CONNEXUS ENERGY IN THE AMOUNT OF $89,610 FOR STREET LIGHTING ON UNIVERSITY AVENUE FROM 109TH AVENUE TO 125TH AVENUE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROPOSAL DATED FEBRUARY 4, 2014, IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 10-09

Background
In the summer of 2014, Anoka County will be reconstructing University Avenue (CSAH 51) from 109th Avenue to just north of 121st Avenue (where the 125th Avenue Design Build project ended) into a new 4-lane divided roadway with medians, curb and gutter and pedestrian trails on both sides of the road.

At the December 12, 2013 Council Workshop, staff was directed to proceed with obtaining a proposal from Connexus Energy for street lighting along the project corridor.  The attached Connexus Energy proposal is to install 13 street lights on the Blaine side of the road.  Coon Rapids is also proceeding with a similar contract with Connexus Energy for installing lights on the Coon Rapids side.

The street lights are LED lights on 30 foot tall fiberglass poles.  The lights will be staggered at approximately 300 foot intervals, alternating between the Coon Rapids and Blaine sides.

The estimated cost for this street light proposal is $89,610.  The City will also be required to pay a monthly energy and maintenance fee of $9.46 per light per month.

Recommendation
Motion to authorize City Manager to enter into a contract with Connexus Energy in the amount of $89,610 for street lighting on University Avenue.
