2014 POLICE FLEET VEHICLE PURCHASE
Background
In the adoption of the 2014 Capital Budget, Council appropriated the funding for certain pieces of equipment in the Capital Equipment Plan. Pursuant to the City Charter, Sec. 6.05, staff is now requesting City Council approval for the actual purchase of the vehicles listed below. These vehicles will be purchased from the State Cooperative Purchasing Program from various vendors. Due to the ordering process for these vehicles and to avoid delivery dates late into the year it is necessary to make specific purchases as close to the beginning of the year as possible.
The purchase of these vehicles is the first step in preparing them for use. The subsequent steps include the purchasing and installation of the equipment; such equipment and installation will be from various vendors and the lowest possible costs. This request is for the purchase of the vehicles and purchase of equipment and vehicle setup, the costs of which are both included in the 2014 budget appropriations.

The budgeted new equipment includes all items necessary to equip a new vehicle such as a Laptop, Camera System, Radio, Long Gun, Emergency Lighting and related controls, Graphics, Cage, Medical Equipment, Push bumper, Prisoner Seat, Water Rescue Suit, etc.
Recommendation
By motion, Approve 2014 Capital Equipment Purchases from vendors for the vehicles, equipment and related setup costs (at the time setup costs occur) in the amount of $328,000.
