Title
APPROVE 2012-13 DEICING CONTRACT AND PURCHASE
Background
Staff is requesting City Council approval to purchase Deicing Salt for the 2012 - 13 winter seasons to North American Salt. The contracted amount of salt for this season is 1,650 ton, at $72.04 per ton delivered including tax. There is also a provision for a fuel surcharge in this contract that could become a factor throughout the season, depending on future fuel prices. Staff will monitor our supply and this condition. This contract is in effect from June of 2012 until June of 2013.
The amount that has been purchased in the past three years has remained constant (3,000 ton). Due to the extremely light winter last year, this year's purchase was decreased by almost half. Approval of the 2013 purchases with North American Salt will be contingent upon the Council's adoption of the 2013 budget. At this point, the 2013 proposed budget reflects this reduction in salt purchases. Should additional chemicals be required in 2013, staff will request appropriate funding approval at that time.

By motion, approve Deicing Salt 2012-13 Contract with North American Salt, for 1,650 tons of Salt for $118,874.00, including $7,647.00 in State Sales Tax
