Title

AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES CONTRACT WITH BARR ENGINEERING FOR THE DESIGN OF HVAC UPGRADES TO WTP 1-3

Background

During the course of related work on our water systems, the City requested Barr Engineering conduct a review of HVAC systems at our three existing Water Treatment Plants.  Each plant has been experiencing significant corrosion due to inadequate ventilation and automated exhaust systems.  Barr brought along KFI engineering as experts in facility infrastructure management to identify proposed improvements.

Current Work Proposal

The scope of work includes design of systems to separate the ventilation systems for the various areas of the plant - offices, electrical rooms, chemical rooms, sump pits, and the main plant process areas. The scope also includes assistance in obtaining the construction quotes and assistance during the construction phases of the project.

Financial Impact

The engineering services under this proposal are estimated at a cost of $33,000.  Funds will come from the Water Enterprise Funds.

Future Work

Construction improvements will be bid under a separate contract.  The initial assessment estimates the improvements at $141,500.  This amount was approved in the 2019 Capital budget.

Recommendation

By motion authorize the Mayor and City Manager to enter into a contract with Barr Engineering for the Design of HVAC Upgrades at Water Treatment Plants 1-3 in the amount of $33,000.
