TITLE
POTENTIAL KIOSKS PROVIDING SIDEWALK AND TRAILS MAPS TO LOCAL BUSINESS DISTRICTS. DESIGN PROJECT USING STATEWIDE HEALTH IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (SHIP) GRANT FUNDS.

BACKGROUND
The Minnesota Department of Health awarded a Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) grant to Anoka County for 2012-13. This grant is to be used for assistance in implementing strategies for healthier communities. Anoka County selected Blaine to receive $18,000 for assistance in developing programs or methods to increase the number of residents utilizing bike and pedestrian routes to access business districts, work, and public transportation.

The Parks and Recreation Department is leading the effort in making use of the grant and put together a team with the Engineering and GIS Departments to come up with suitable projects.

We have identified six locations in the city at which we would like to place kiosks which will contain maps highlighting sidewalks, trails, and bike paths to local business districts, work, and public transportation. Business districts will also be highlighted on the kiosk maps. The six sites we have identified were chosen because they are high traffic areas of the city with a large number of bikers, walkers, athletic fields, and large business districts.

• Kiosk #1 - Located at the SE corner of the intersection of 109th Ave and Davenport St.

•Kiosk #2 - Located at the Park of Four Seasons. The general location is near the main office building.  The site will be determined by city staff and property management.

•Kiosk #3 - 89th Ave. NE and 87th Lane/Aurelia Park Trail.

•Kiosk #4 - Located at Cloverleaf Parkway and Polk St.

•Kiosk #5 - Would be located at the Blaine Baseball Complex.

•Kiosk #6 - NE or SE corner of the intersection of 105th Ave and Davenport St.
