Title

Establishing 2022 Public Hearing Dates for the Proposed 2023 General Fund Budget and Tax Levy

end

Executive Summary

The Council is asked to set the public hearing dates for discussion and adoption of the 2023 Tax Levy and General Fund Budget.

Background

Minnesota Statutes require cities to establish future public hearing dates on the proposed budget and tax levy by September 30, and to hold the public hearings at a regularly scheduled Council meeting.

The attached resolution calls for two public hearings: The first for discussion on the proposed 2023 General Fund Budget and Tax Levy on December 12, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.; and the second public hearing for the adoption of the 2022 Tax Levy and General Fund Budget at 7:30 p.m. on December 19, 2022.

Strategic Plan Relationship

Establishing the dates for public discussion of the City’s budget and tax levy directly ties to the Strategic Priority of Effective Communication.

Board/Commission Review

The City Council has reviewed the proposed budget and tax levies at previous Council Workshops.

Financial Impact

Nominally three quarters City’s general operations funding comes from property tax. The appropriation of funds through the budget process establishes the spending parameters for Council approved initiatives.

Public Outreach/Input

No public notification is required at this stage of the process.

Staff Recommendation
