AUTHORIZE TEMPORARY REMOVAL OF PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON 103^RD LANE FOR CENTENNIAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EVENT ON MAY 21, 2014 (RAIN DATE: MAY 22, 2014)

Background

The City of Blaine received a letter on January 16, 2014 from Kathy Kaiser, Principal of Centennial Elementary School, requesting the temporary removal of parking restrictions on 103^rd Lane and National Street in order to allow parking on those streets from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on May 21, 2014, with a rain date of May 22, 2014.  The school is hosting their annual 5^th Grade Track and Field meet during that time period and expects a need for additional parking to accommodate observers of the event.  In reviewing previously approved parking restrictions, National Street was recently posted to restrict parking and restricted parking on 103^rd Lane has been in place for some time.  City Council authorization is required for the temporary lifting of those parking restrictions.  Over the past several years, City Council has authorized the temporary lifting of restrictions for this annual event and other events, including a "walk-a-thon" at Centennial in 2005.

Recommendation

By motion, authorize the temporary removal of parking restrictions on National Street and 103^rd Lane from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on May 21, 2014, with a rain date of May 22, 2014.
