WORKSHOP ITEM - Robert Therres, Public Services Manager/Asst. City Manager
Title
DISCUSSION ON SPACE PLANNING FOR CITY HALL
Background
As part of looking at future staffing and space needs plans, Staff is recommending to have an Architect assist in utilizing our existing City Hall space most efficiently and look at how and when the third floor space should be utilized.
City Hall was occupied in March of 2002 with a third floor that was left vacant and programmed for future expansion. The City has continued to grow and some of the existing spaces in City Hall have outgrown their original designated spaces while others have not, and others are now in different spaces than originally designed. Staff is looking for assistance in making the best use of the existing space in City Hall and also to develop a plan to move office space into the third floor.
Staff has received a proposal from the 292 Design Group to do a Space Planning and Programming for Blaine City Hall. 292 Design Group is made up of several principals from the firm that did the original City Hall design. This proposal is for $23,400. There are funds available for this study in our Building Maintenance Budget.
Recommendation
Give Staff direction on whether to proceed with preparing an item for City Council action on space need planning for City Hall.
