Title
APPROVE SECURITY VIDEO SURVELLIANCE EQUIPMENT FOR CITY HALL/POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $47,500
Background
The Police Department is in the process of upgrading its internal surveillance equipment and the surveillance equipment in City Hall as well. In 2015 the City had budgeted $25,000 for this project, which included a $4,500 safety grant from the State of Minnesota for the first year in an estimated three year program
Staff from the Police Department, IT, and City Hall is working with two different vendors, Pro-Tec and Northland Business Systems, on this project. The first part of this multi-year project was upgrading the existing surveillance system with servers and software to handle full build out with additional cameras from analog to digital.
Staff will include funds in future Capital Equipment requests to complete the project. This second year will include replacing some of the analog cameras to true digital cameras, convert the analog cameras to digital and divert all of the Police Interview rooms to one of the two previously purchased servers so they are separate for evidentiary purposes. The second year funding was approved in the 2016 Capital Budget. The third year will be replacing all analog cameras to true digital, add additional cameras in and around City Hall and relocate some of our current cameras.
Staff is recommending that the City Council approve of purchasing video surveillance equipment from Pro-Tec in the amount of $23,000 and from Northland Business Systems in the amount of $24,500.
Recommendation
By motion, approve of purchasing video surveillance equipment in the amount of $47,500 from Pro-Tec and Northland Business Systems.
