Title
APPROVE FUNDING FOR HAPPY ACRES RINK #3 PAVING
Background
Staff is requesting approval of $15,000.00 for the paving of Happy Acres rink #3. This is the final year of rebuilding the three hockey rinks at Happy Acres. Rinks one and two were paved and re-built with new boards in 2011 and 2012 respectively. The rinks were sub cut approximately 2 feet to remove unstable soil and then filled with recycled asphalt from street reconstruction projects and compacted. This request is for the bituminous asphalt only, the paving of the rink will be performed utilizing Public Works staff and equipment. The bituminous surface allows staff to build ice much faster early in the winter season, which will benefit our residents by being able to open the warming houses sooner. The surface also provides a surface suitable for summer activities such as street hockey, rollerblading, and possibly pickle ball.
This project was anticipated and budgeted for in the Park Maintenance fund.
Recommendation
Approve the purchase of bituminous asphalt in the amount of $15,000.00 for the paving of Happy Acres Rink #3 to be funded from the Park Maintenance account.
