ACCEPTING THE PROPOSAL FOR REPLACEMENT PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $17,399.27 FROM MINNESOTA/WISCONSIN PLAYGROUND FOR BROKEN OAKS PARK
Background
In August, Broken Oaks playground was vandalized. Northland Recreation estimated the cost to replace the damaged playground equipment at $6,391.96. While the City is fully insured for this amount, staff is requesting Council approve additional funding to fully replace the playground at Broken Oaks at this time. The current playground was scheduled for full replacement in 2018 and normally the cost to replace this playground would be in the $30,000 - $40,000 range. Staff was able to find a close-out deal on a set of playground equipment for $11,007.31 on a playground set that normally costs $18,484. The existing play-curb swing set both still in good condition and would not be replaced. Thus, Staff is requesting funds in the amount not to exceed $17,399.27 to replace and install the full playground at Broken Oaks. Funding for the project would include $6,391.96 from the City’s self-insurance fund while the remaining $11,007.31 would come from savings in the capital equipment fund as a result of deferring the purchase of two additional sets of speed humps.

Recommendation
By motion, accept the proposal from Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground for playground equipment purchase and installation at Broken Oaks Park in an amount not to exceed $17,399.27.
