Title

AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH JULIAN M. JOHNSON CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $21,425 FOR 131ST AVENUE DITCH 59-6 CULVERT REPLACEMENT, IMPROVEMENT PROJECT NO. 17-15

Background

On August 18, 2017, the Engineering Department requested proposals for the 131st Avenue Ditch 59-6 Culvert Replacement.  Quotes were received on September 1, 2017, for Project No. 17-15.  A total of three quotes were received ranging from $21,425.00 to $23,800.02.  The three lowest bidders are as follows:

Julian M. Johnson Construction

$21,425.00

Valley-Rich Co., Inc.

$23,600.00

Kevin Casey, LLC

$23,800.02

Quotes have been checked and tabulated, and it has been determined that Julian M. Johnson Construction of Ramsey, MN submitted the lowest responsible quote. The Engineering Department has worked with Julian M. Johnson Construction on previous contracts.  I recommend the low quote be accepted and a contract entered into with Julian M. Johnson Construction.

City Council is also asked to approve a 10% contingency to bring the total project budget to $23,567.50.  The funding source for this project is the Stormwater Utility Fund and there are sufficient funds to cover these costs.

Recommendation

By motion, authorize the Mayor and City Manager to accept the quote from Julian M. Johnson Construction in the amount of $21,425.00 for the 131st Avenue Ditch 59-6 culvert replacement project and authorize a 10% contingency, bringing the total project budget to $23,567.50, allowing the Public Services Manager to sign all change orders up to the authorized project budget amount.
